IAT-Kaplan Cources 

English pre-entry course

The English pre-entry course places emphasis on equipping each student with the English language skills needed to achieve a minimum IELTS of 5.0 and progress on to one of the below Foundation Certificate courses.

• Foundation Certificate Level 1 (for progression to Fatima College or The Logistics Academy)  
• Foundation Certificate Level 2 (for progression to Al Ain International Aviation Academy)

Entry level requirements:Minimum IELTS 2.0 or equivalent (IELTS equivalent test can be taken at IAT-Kaplan to assess English level)

Course length: 2 semesters (34 weeks)

Start date: September 2010, September 2011

Objectives: Students will be required to take and successfully pass four English language modules:

• General Reading and Writing 1
• General Reading and Writing 2
• General Speaking and Listening 1
• General Speaking and Listening 2

Students will also need to reach an English level equivalent to IELTS 3.0.

Foundation Certificate level 1

Our Foundation programmes have been especially designed for students who need to take their English skills to the next level and who want to combine their course with subject-specific modules related to their subsequent programme at an IAT Academy.

Entry level requirements: Minimum IELTS 3.0 or equivalent

Course length: 2 semesters (34 weeks)

Start date: September 2010, September 2011

Objectives: Students will be required to take and successfully pass ten modules:

• General English 1
• Reading and Writing 1
• Speaking and Listening 1
• Foundation Academic Skills 1
• Foundation Mathematics
• General English 2
• Reading and Writing 2
• Speaking and Listening 2
• Foundation Academic Skills 2
• Pathway module:
  • Either Foundation Science (Science pathway) or
  • Foundation Workplace (Business pathway)

Students will also need to reach an English level equivalent to minimum IELTS 5.0.

Progression: Successful students will progress on to one of two institutions depending on their chosen pathway:

• Fatima College of Health Sciences (Science Pathway)
• Logistics Academy (Business pathway)

Foundation Certificate level 2

Our Foundation programmes have been especially designed for students who need to take their English skills to the next level and who want to combine their course with subject-specific modules related to their subsequent programme at an IAT Academy.

Entry level requirements: Minimum IELTS 3.0 or equivalent

Course length: 3 semesters (51 weeks)

Start date: September 2010, September 2011

Objectives: Students will be required to take and successfully pass 16 modules:

• The ten modules from Foundation Certificate Level 1 [link] plus:
• Advanced Academic English 1
• Advanced Academic English 2
• Advanced Academic Skills 1
• Advanced Academic Skills 2
• Advanced Mathematics
• Advanced Science

Students will also need to reach an English level equivalent to minimum IELTS 5.5.

Progression: Successful students will progress on to the Al Ain International Aviation Academy
