Welcome to the Institute of Applied Technology (IAT) in Ras Al Khaimah (RAK). Thank you for taking the time to read about our school, whether you are a potential employer of our graduates, a prospective student, parent, teacher or just visiting.
It has been my pleasure to work in the United Arab Emirates for over 5 years. Before starting at the IAT, I was Programme Chair of Engineering at the Higher Colleges of Technology in RAK. I worked closely with the IAT during that time and was impressed by the professionalism of the staff and by the standard of graduates that the IAT produces. I am therefore really privileged to have the opportunity to become part of the RAK IAT team.
Originally I qualified as an engineer in the United Kingdom. I worked in industry for 13 years before moving into technical education. I then worked at a number of colleges across England for a period of 17 years, finally as a director at a large college in the UK.
The IAT vision is to “Create a world-class Career Technical Education system that will produce the scientists, engineers and technicians needed for the UAE to build a knowledge-based economy.” To achieve this, all of our schools are very well equipped and we have recruited excellent staff from all over the world to teach here.
Our school is a part of the wider RAK community. We see it as our duty to help our students become rounded citizens who can become excellent role models and make a valuable contribution to society. Our curriculum gives them the opportunity to develop more than just technical skills; their physical and moral growth is also vital to ensure our graduates are healthy and self disciplined individuals.
Our school puts the students at the centre of everything we do. We aim to make their learning demanding yet enjoyable, helping them prepare for whatever challenges they face in the future.
The IAT is not complacent; it is an organisation that strives for continuous improvement. This can be seen by our commitment to adopt American quality standards. The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) has accredited the IAT school system and provides an excellent framework for us to monitor what we do and help us to continue improving.
