Curriculum Philosophy

“Today’s knowledge-based economy demands continuous learning and innovation. It calls for a highly skilled and flexible workforce with the ability to work in multi-functional teams with people from diverse cultural and educational backgrounds. The focus is no longer on performing a single job or task. Preparation of a qualified workforce should start at the school level, where students need to understand at a young age the educational requirements for success at the college level and in the workplace. Moreover, they must be able to make informed decisions about their future careers while still in school.

In response to this, IAT has adopted the Career-Technical Education (CTE) model in which academic core knowledge is integrated with technological and workplace skills; the former is required to pursue post-secondary education and the latter provides students with a higher level of career cluster-related experience.

A career cluster is a broad grouping of related industries and careers that share common resources and employ workers who have similar interests and skills. Every career cluster consists of multiple career pathways which are micro-areas of concentration within one career cluster. Career pathways are like roadmaps which students can explore in order to grasp the full scope of the cluster. Students of one career cluster will acquire similar academic and technical skills, and most likely they will pursue similar industry certifications and/or post-secondary education.

Career clusters allow business leaders to be partners in education where students can participate in more extensive career development opportunities that assist in determining their education and career goals in the long run.”

Driven by UAE industry needs, IAT has developed a curriculum targeting 4 career clusters: Engineering Sciences Cluster, Applied Engineering Cluster, Information & Communication Technology (ICT) Cluster, and Health Science & Technology (HST) Cluster. In the Engineering Science Cluster, students can study general science subjects or energy related topics; where in the Applied Engineering Cluster, they can focus on Electrical or Mechanical subjects.
