Responsibilities 

As economic, social and technological change gathers pace, people everywhere need to develop their knowledge and skills, on a continuous basis, so that they can live and work meaningfully in the knowledge society.

Realizing that education and training contribute to an individual’s personal development, increase her/his productivity and incomes at work, and facilitate everybody’s participation in economic and social life, the Government of Abu Dhabi established the Institute of Applied Technology to lead the development of career-based technical education. The significance of this important step is realized in view of the fact that investing in education and training is an investment in the future; knowledge and skills are the engine of economic growth and social development.

The Imiri Decree 32/2005 stipulates the responsibilities of the Institute as follows:

  • Establish Technical and Technological institutes and training centers in the emirate (of Abu Dhabi) with the specializations and majors determined by the Board of Trustees.
  • Provide specialized programs to the graduates of the applied technology institutes in the fields of the industrial technology.
  • Conducting need analysis for National industries and provide appropriate technological specializations in order to meet the needs of such industries from National manpower.
  • Providing specialized training programs to qualify the technical manpower in the State and coordinate with the competent authorities to qualify their employees for career advancement.
  • Providing technical consultation in the field of employee qualification in all technological, industrial, and technical fields for all bodies in the State.
  • Managing technical and technological institutes and training centers in the State and entering necessary arrangement to achieve the same.
  • Qualifying and training of the students of the Institute to secure scientific and technological degrees in the fields approved by the Board of Trustees.
  • Entering Agreements to enable the Institute from achieving its objects.
  • Any other responsibilities delegated to the Institute by the executive council.
